Food industry in NRW

Whether agriculture, food processing, trade or the restaurant sector – NRW is one of Germany’s most important locations for the food industry. 50,000 agricultural businesses, around 1,000 companies in the food industry, and nearly 96,800 jobs, well over 700 companies in upstream and down­stream industrial sectors from plant construction, logistics, and the packaging industry to the manufacturers of additives or providers of data-processing solutions – the industry, which is characterized by small and medium-sized enterprises as well as global players such as Dr. Oetker, HARIBO, and Zentis, is an important location factor and a huge economic power for the state.
