Münsterland

Town Hall in Münster

Münsterland lies in the north-west of NRW. It encompasses the four districts Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt, and Warendorf, as well as the city of Münster which with its 270,000 inhabitants forms the center of the region. A total of approx. 1.5 people live in Münsterland. With an area of 5,940 km² the average population density is 266 inhabitants/km².

Münsterland is a modern industrial region with a stable small and medium-sized company structure. The manufacturing industry in the sectors mechanical engineering, chemicals, textiles, food, and environmental technology is complemented by a strong service sector with an employment share of 52 percent. In total, 481,087 employees work at approx. 80,000 companies in Münsterland.

New focal areas of the regional economy are information, bio and nano technology. Companies benefit increasingly from Münster as a scientific location. The technology transfer between research and business is therefore consistently promoted by the Technology Initiative Münster.

The scientific central point of the region is the University of Münster, the fourth-largest in Germany. Together with the universities of applied sciences, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, the Leibnitz Institute for Arteriosclerosis Research and the Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech), technology-oriented companies are assured interesting partners.

Münsterland offers companies an attractive infrastructure. Besides the German-Dutch Internet exchange point in Münster, the region is also extremely well developed in real terms via the A1 and A2 freeways, various IC and ICE rail links, the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Mittelandkanal, and Münster/Osnabrück International Airport.
