Germany’s no. 1 economic region

The excellent infrastructure, the central location and the high qualifications of the people have made Germany's most populous state an economic power of international standing in its own right. In terms of numerous economic statistics, NRW is world class.

At 543 billion euros, NRW generates 21.7 percent of the German gross domestic product (GDP), putting it clearly ahead of all the other federal states. The GDP per inhabitant amounts to 30,421 euros and per employed person to an average of 62,332 euros. NRW generates 4.4 percent of the European GDP (EU-27) and is thus one of Europe's most important economic regions. Internationally, the state lies just behind Turkey.
