Düsseldorf/Munich, 23 May 2007 – North Rhine-Westphalia's high-tech landscape has received growth from the Far East. In May 2007, the telecommunications company ZTE Corporation from China opened a branch in Düsseldorf's "Am Seestern" business area. The company employs a two-figure staff in the state capital, and plans to grow considerably before the end of the year. The German GmbH (limited company) has already successfully implemented its first major projects. The Vodaphone Group, for example, recently concluded a contract with ZTE for the supply of cellular telephones, with the focus on emerging markets. In addition, DeTe Immobilien, a company of Deutsche Telekom Gruppe, has just certified ZTE's power supply products.
With approx. 40,000 employees worldwide, the high-tech ZTE Corporation is China's largest listed developer and manufacturer of data, mobile phone, and telecommunications solutions, and provider of Internet-based video and voice-over-IP solutions. As one of the industry leaders in China, the Shenzhen-based company operates over 90 branches and representations worldwide.
Petra Wassner, managing director of the state-owned economic development agency NRW.INVEST, is convinced that the settlement of ZTE demonstrates why NRW is such a strong investment location: "High-tech companies not only have an ideal environment in NRW, they can also serve the entire European market comfortably from here."
ZTE locations in Europe include France, Greece, England, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Portugal, and Turkey. In Germany, the company has branches in Munich and Frankfurt am Main in addition to Düsseldorf.
"We decided in favor of Düsseldorf as a location because it enables us to provide our customers in the telecommunications metropolitan region of NRW with better and faster service", says Dr. Zhigang Zhang, managing director of ZTE Deutschland GmbH.
