Düsseldorf/Cologne, 10 March 2008 – The Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. is to set up its European headquarters in Cologne. On Friday, the Chinese Sany corporation signed the lease in KölnTurm, Mediapark, thereby taking the first step towards establishing Sany Germany GmbH. To begin with, the company will be employing 30 people at the Cologne location. In the medium term, it plans to create numerous additional jobs in the region.
"With the settlement of Sany we can further increase the attractiveness of North Rhine-Westphalia for major Chinese investments", emphasizes Christa Thoben, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
NRW.INVEST has been supporting the settlement of the Chinese investor since May last year. "With our continuous service and the quality of our location we succeeded in asserting ourselves in the face of strong competition in Europe and Germany", explains Petra Wassner, Managing Director of NRW.INVEST.
"The key factors that influenced our decision in favor of Cologne were the good infrastructure, the availability of qualified employees, and the service provided by the state economic development agency NRW.INVEST", says Xingliang Feng, deputy director of Sany Heavy Industry Europe, explaining the decision.
Sany Germany GmbH i.G. is the European headquarters of Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., which mainly manufacturers construction equipment such as truck-mounted concrete pumps, trailer-mounted concrete pumps, cranes, asphalt pavers, and port equipment. Established in Changsha, Hunan province in 1989, the corporation now employs more than 21,000 people, generating sales of approx. 1.3 billion euros in 2007.
