Chemical industry in NRW

NRW is Germany’s most important loca­tion for chemicals. As a chemical location, NRW ranks 6th in the EU and 12th in the world in terms of sales. In 2007, the NRW share of annual German sales was 31.6 percent. The number of people employed in this industry was more than 107,000 (24.3 percent share of German total). The number of NRW companies was more than 470  . The major chemical companies include Lanxess, Evonik Industries, Henkel, and Cognis.
