NRW.INVEST opens new representation in Shanghai

  • Office to become bridge to Germany and Europe for Chinese investors

Düsseldorf, September 21, 2007:
North Rhine-Westphalia now also has a representation in Shanghai: At a ceremony attended by more than 200 representatives from business, politics, and administration, the state-owned location agency NRW.INVEST has now opened its new offices. Dr. Jens Baganz, permanent under-secretary at the NRW Ministry for Economic Affairs, emphasized the importance of the economic relations between China and North Rhine-Westphalia. Over the past ten years the foreign trade volume between China and NRW has increased almost five-fold, reaching around 18.5 billion euros in 2006. Baganz added that NRW is taking account of the greater importance of China and, following Nanjing, is now also represented in the economic metropolis of Shanghai.

Petra Wassner, Managing Director of NRW.INVEST, pointed out that the branch office in Shanghai is to act as a bridge for Chinese investors to Germany and Europe, adding that NRW is an ideal location to invest in the German and European market. This is also the reason why the number of Chinese companies in NRW has quadrupled in NRW over the past three years. Today, more than 470 Chinese companies operate at Germany's leading investment location, most of them having settled in the economic centers of Düsseldorf, Cologne, and the Ruhr region.

Huaizhen Huang, Executive Chief Representative of NRW.INVEST in Shanghai, underlined that she and her team want to ensure with extensive information and consulting services that Chinese companies receive optimal support in their search for a location in NRW. Particularly in the fields of energy, automotive, mechanical engineering and logistics, NRW.INVEST will actively approach potential investors to inform them about invest opportunities in NRW.
