Press release from 13.11.2007
Düsseldorf, 12 November 2007 – In order to honor the increasing importance of Polish companies in NRW, Petra Wassner, managing director of NRW.INVEST GmbH, is inviting high-ranking Polish entrepreneurs to the German-Polish Business Dinner at the Düsseldorf Business Club. The guest of honor is the president of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and chairperson of the German-Polish parliamentary group, Regina van Dinther. Other participants in the event are the Polish consul general, Andrzej Kaczorowski and the representative of the Kuyavia-Pomerania Province, Wolodzimer Jasniak.
Polish investors are becoming increasingly important for NRW. 41 percent of the nearly 200 companies with Polish involvement were established in the last two years, since the accession of Poland to the EU. This is considerably more than in any other federal state. NRW also heads the field when it comes to the total volume of investments made by Polish companies in Germany.
NRW.INVEST GmbH assists Polish firms in locating, support and market expansion in North Rhine-Westphalia. "Poland is one of the most important economic partners for North Rhine-Westphalia in central and eastern Europe. The Polish businesses in the state employ almost 3,000 people. It is therefore important for us to present ourselves to the Polish entrepreneurs as contact persons in all location-related matters," says Petra Wassner, managing director of NRW.INVEST GmbH.
Economic growth in Poland increased once again last year, with the gross domestic product rising by 5.8 percent. "It is very good for North Rhine-Westphalia that many new companies have been established as a result of Poland's accession to the EU. The good collaboration between Poland and NRW has a long tradition," explains state parliament president Regina van Dinther.
The Polish companies in NRW operate predominantly in the wholesale, construction, and service sectors. More than 50 percent of the firms from Poland have based themselves in the Rhineland, where Düsseldorf is a particularly popular location. 28 percent of the companies have located in the Ruhr region, followed by Westfalen with 17 percent.
The highest employee numbers are recorded by businesses in the production and construction sectors. Important companies in NRW include BRILUM Licht GmbH, Lüdenscheid (distribution and production of lighting equipment), Kotlomontaz Sp.z.o.o, Düsseldorf (technical services, construction and assembly), CTL Logistics GmbH, Düsseldorf (rail logistics) as well as FLT-Metall HandelsGmbH, Düsseldorf, Tele-Fonika Kable GmbH Central Europe, Hilden, Hoesch Design GmbH, Kreuzau, and KROSS GmbH, Cologne.
