Press release from 15.04.2008
Düsseldorf, 15 April 2008 – For the Hungarian economy, North Rhine-Westphalia is becoming progressively more important as an investment location in Germany. At the beginning of 2006, the number of companies with Hungarian capital was approx. 23. Within a year and a half, the figure rose to 40 Hungarian companies in North Rhine-Westphalia. "The potential for investors from central and eastern Europe – and especially from Hungary – is far from being exhausted", underlines Petra Wassner, managing director of NRW.INVEST GmbH.
In order to strengthen bilateral relations between Hungary and North Rhine-Westphalia, the chairman of the Visegrád Group in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, Horst Westkämper, MdL, and Petra Wassner, NRW.INVEST, today invited high-ranking representatives of Hungarian companies to the German-Hungarian Business Dinner in the Düsseldorf Industrie Club. Participants in the event include the Hungarian Consul General, Maria Nagy, and the Hungarian Economic Consul, József Vápár.
The importance of North Rhine-Westphalia's economic relations with the states in central and eastern Europe is growing steadily. In 2007, the volume of foreign trade with the "new" EU members totaled 34.7 billion euros.
Over the past three years, NRW.INVEST GmbH has intensified its support for Hungarian firms in North Rhine-Westphalia with regard to settlement, counseling, and market expansion. "We want to present ourselves to the Hungarian business community in all location-related issues at an early stage", says Petra Wassner. "By doing so we are laying the foundation for further companies to become interested in North Rhine-Westphalia as an investment location."
The Hungarian companies in NRW operate mainly in the wholesale and service sectors. In the service sector, they focus on the manufacture of extremely high-quality products. Leading Hungarian companies in North Rhine-Westphalia include Mediso GmbH in Laer, a specialized supplier in the medical technology industry, OPTOS – Optimale Oszillationstechnik in Warburg, a producer and provider of grinding machines, MAL Deutschland Aluminium Handelsgesellschaft in Düsseldorf, Kuert Datenrettung Deutschland in Bochum, and VIDEOTON Handelsgesellschaft in Hilden, which trades in equipment and elements for the electronics and engineering industries.
