The Westphalian city of Dortmund is not only the region’s top IT location. It is also right up there when it comes to key technologies thanks to the excellent conditions it provides for highly qualified staff and young scientists. The universities, research institutes and young, up-and-coming technology and service companies have long since been strong features of the business location of Dortmund, flanked by successful global players and traditional companies.
The infrastructure here is unique, with six interstate autobahns, the largest canal harbour in Europe, direct links to the railway network and an airport, as well as innovative sites with great development prospects. The city is also an attractive place to live – with plenty of trendy quarters or leafy suburbs to choose from – as well as diverse cultural and leisure facilities including the renowned Konzerthaus, Westfalenhallen, DFB Football Museum or the Dortmunder U. No wonder that last year Dortmund topped the 600,000 population mark to make it the eighth largest city in Germany and the largest in the Ruhr Region.
