Competitive taxation system

With its taxation system Germany has long since ceased to be a high-taxation country. The total tax burden on corporations is just under 30 percent, putting it at a medium level internationally. An important factor for companies, because this provides them with much more leeway for their investments.

Tax rates in an international comparison

In an international comparison of the major industrialized countries, Germany is characterized by a competitive taxation system. The average total tax burden for corporations is 29.83 percent. This places Germany lower than other major developed countries like France, Italy or Spain, and thus provides companies and investors with an attractive location factor.

Corporate taxation consists of three components

The first is corporate income tax with a uniform nationwide tax rate of 15 percent. The second component is the so-called solidarity surcharge – with a uniform nationwide rate of 0.825 percent. The third component is business tax. This is a municipal tax, which means that it can be fixed in principle in its amount by any city or municipality independently, as long as it is at least seven percent. For investors and companies this means that in numerous cities and municipalities an, in some cases, significantly lower tax burden is possible. In addition, Germany has a wide network of double taxation agreements, so that companies with international operations can avoid the additional burden of double taxation on profits earned in Germany.
