Partner network in NRW
The economy in North Rhine-Westphalia has numerous mainstays. NRW.INVEST operates within the state in close collaboration with an efficient partner network under the auspices of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Economic Affairs and in cooperation with the chambers of the state, the industry clusters and other state initiatives. All the partners work together to continuously advance the dynamic economic strength and international competitiveness of NRW as a business location.
The task of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry (MWEIMH) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is to create optimal conditions for business in the state. The economic policy of the state has set itself the goal of promoting a business- and industry-friendly climate. North Rhine-Westphalia is to be strengthened as an innovative, forward-looking and attractive business location.
NRW.International GmbH performs the operational tasks of foreign trade promotion. The company is financed one-third each by the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry(IHK NRW), the West German Chambers of Crafts and Skilled Trades' Council (WHKT) and NRW.BANK. NRW.International uses state funds to support enterprises with their participation in selected trade fairs abroad, and also supports the involvement of the business community in foreign markets by offering corporate delegation trips and organizing industry information and contact events. NRW's foreign trade portal www.nrw-international.de provides the exporting companies in North Rhine-Westphalia with a wide range of services and databases.
In its capacity as the development bank for North Rhine-Westphalia, NRW.BANK assists the state in its structural and economic tasks. The bank acts on behalf of the state, operates in a competition-neutral manner and offers the full range of banking products required in the field of development and promotion – from traditional loans to tailored consulting. The goal of NRW.BANK is to accompany economic restructuring in the state and to support the transition toward a modern service and knowledge society.
The cluster policy of the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia promotes cooperation between companies, research institutions and the public sector along value chains in a total of 16 industry and technology fields. The aim of the cluster policy is to develop lead markets and create a favorable environment for innovations that strengthens the competitiveness of the economy and creates jobs and growth.

The IHK NRW is the state association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) in North Rhine-Westphalia. It acts as the joint representative of the 16 CCIs in NRW vis-à-vis state politics and state government, administrations, associations and other organizations. Its task is to develop common positions and represent the interests of the North Rhine-Westphalian economy, companies and member chambers.
The West German Chambers of Crafts and Skilled Trades' Council (WHKT) is the central governing body of the seven chambers of crafts and skilled trades in North Rhine-Westphalia. Its responsibilities include organizing and coordinating the tasks carried out uniformly by the chambers of crafts and skilled trades, representing their interests to the state authorities and maintaining the chambers' relations with other crafts and skilled trades organizations. The WHKT sees itself as a driving force for development processes in order to make chambers of crafts and skilled trades and craft businesses future-proof.
