The industry and science network is designed to drive innovation topics such as climate and environmentally friendly flying.

Automated flying by air taxi or the use of drones in the medical field – just two examples of the many fields of application currently occupying the aerospace industry. With its industrial strength and top-level research, North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the important European innovation drivers. The purpose of the new AeroSpace.NRW network is to bundle these competencies in order to exploit the full potential of the industry.

"We want to open up new business areas, overcome the pandemic-related crisis in the industry and strengthen competitiveness in order to ensure sustainable and future-proof aerospace from North Rhine-Westphalia," said Economics and Innovation Minister Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart. According to the state government, the focus is on climate- and environmentally friendly flying, where types of propulsion such as electricity or hydrogen are gaining in importance, as are new developments in materials and construction.

AeroSpace.NRW is intended to provide a platform for all players in the industry – from science and industry to politics – to jointly research new technologies and initiate value chains. The aim is also to make developments usable for other industries and to exploit synergy effects.
