The Swiss industrial company SIG, which specializes in aseptic packaging, is building a pilot plant near its existing packaging plants in Linnich, in the district of Düren, at a cost of 12 million euros.

At the “Tech Center Europe”, SIG intends to add to its existing research and development facilities with the pilot plant and develop novel packaging solutions. The planned plant is intended to enable test filling in small quantities, so that SIG can offer its customers faster product development and market launch of their packaging. The plant, which will be built in accordance with the latest hygiene regulations and most effective energy standards, is scheduled to go into operation as early as the end of 2022.

José Matthijsse, President & General Manager Europe at SIG: "Our new Tech Center will create capacity for packaging innovation that will shape SIG's future growth in Europe."

SIG Combibloc Services AG is a leading supplier in the packaging industry. With around 5,900 employees in more than 60 countries, it recently achieved a profit of 1.8 billion euros. At the Linnich plant, an average of 24 million packages leave the production line every day – for products such as milk, juice, sauces, small vegetables or baby food.
